WHARRAM TANENUI CATAMARAN
Up for sale is a 28’ Wharram Tanenui Catamaran. I built this from plans provided by James Wharram. It was built to plans with upgrades to Tiki beams and Tiki rig. The boat is fully outfitted including a TOHATSU 6 HP xtra long shaft outboard and sails by Rolly Tasker. All unused. Includes a rigid dinghy, All you need to do is move it to the water, assemble it and launch it. I am selling for personal reasons. The boat it USCG documented. The boat is located outside College Station, Tx and will you will need to arrange transport. FYI each hull weighs about 750 lbs.
Plywood-.Hydrotek Marine Plywood. It is is manufactured utilizing BS 1088 specifications, it is a multiply type construction, with balanced internal plys and thick (1mm before sanding) face veneers, and water proof phenolic glue. It is made using a stiff and strong wood specie which when put together, yield a very good quality marine panel. The faces and core are rotary cut veneer and the faces are one piece without splices. Inner veneers are well selected for Hydrotek and built to the 1088 spec for absolute minimum core voids . This all combines to make Hydrotek a strong and structural marine ply plywood. It is a perfect replacement for the declining quality of marine Douglas Fir. It cuts and sands well. It holds fastenings well. It glues well.
Framing Lumber- C&Btr Southern Yellow Pine selected personally
Epoxy Resin- MarinEpoxy Epoxy resin formulated for Boat Building, and Boat Repair. Ideal for wood and fiberglass lamination, bonding, fillets and putties. Excellent wet out of fiberglass, low viscosity, easy to use 2:1 ratio.
Fasteners - All screws, bolts, etc are 316 Stainless Steel
All materials were glued and screwed together with thickened epoxy glue and screwed on 4” centers. The entire hull exterior sheer to sheer was sheathed with xynole polyester cloth set in epoxy.
5' diameter aluminum mast to designer's specifications.Custom Dynema standing rigging by Kraken
Mantus 25 lb anchor; Mantus bow roller; 200 ft. 3 strand nylon anchor rode.Various blocks: Shaefer 5 series blocks for the standard rigging. Approximately 13-14 total
Running rigging for halyards and downhauls
Extra line for sheets, etc.
Opening ports are New Found Metals Tri-Matrix ports, a total of six with insect screen.
2-2x2 solar panels, mounts and charge controller
Remote control for Tohatsu outboard.
2-6 volt batteries, never used for house batteries.
The interiors are wired for 12v lighting, A shore power inlet has been wired in to multiple outlets for connecting things like computers, battery chargers, etc.
MOVING: The hulls, beams, cockpit, cockpit lockers, outboard pod, slatted decks, etc. are located outside College Station, TX. The site is limited so a semi cannot pickup the boat. My original plans were to move one hull at a time on a low 30' trailer and pickup. The location affords the opportunity to roll the hulls onto a trailer with minimal effort. The steel cradles are setup to receive heavy duty wheeled casters located 4' on center. We can jack up a hull, attach the casters, roll to the trailer ramps and load onto the trailer. Once on the trailer, the hulls can be jacked up again, casters removed and then strapped down to the trailer for transport. Ancillary items like the mast, beams, etc can be loaded on the trailer as well. 2 trips will do it, 3 if needed. Extra wood cradles are included to support the hulls once you get them to your location.
